Tatum to miss Celtics-Raptors game with left wrist soreness

The Boston Celtics will be without their MVP candidate in Saturday night's game against the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena.

The team announced Friday afternoon that Jayson Tatum was ruled out due to left wrist soreness.

Tatum played 48 minutes in Thursday's exciting 121-118 overtime victory against the Golden State Warriors at TD Garden. The superstar forward scored a game-high 34 points with 19 rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Tatum leads the Celtics at 37 minutes played per game. Only two players in the NBA average more minutes per game -- Dallas Mavericks guard Luke Doncic (37.5) and Raptors forward Pascal Siakam (37.6).

It makes sense to give Tatum a night off given how much he's played over the first half of the season. And the Celtics can afford it because they entered Friday with a league-best 34-12 record. They have a 4.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers for first place in the Eastern Conference.
