Jabari Bird signs two-year deal with Boston Celtics

“Everybody here at Summer League has to be impressed by the way he's playing,” Celtics assistant and Summer League coach Jay Larranaga told reporters in Las Vegas recently when asked about the play of Celtics second-year guard Jabari Bird.

Especially, it appears, the Celtics themselves:

The deal is a two-year minimum contract, worth $3 million total, with the first season fully guaranteed. Bird will become a restricted free agent again in 2020 once the contract ends.

One of the persons most happy is probably Jaylen Brown, a teammate of Bird’s at Cal and his current teammate in Boston.

“I’m telling you, he’s a really, really good player,” Brown told NBC Sports Boston earlier this year. “When he gets his chance, and he’ll get it, he’ll show everyone. You’ll see.”

And that chance, apparently, will come here.
