Derrick White has been getting more minutes since Marcus Smart’s injury. He talks about capitalizing on his larger role and growing his confidence.

Derrick White will play through the pain when the Boston Celtics host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

The Celtics guard suffered a ruptured eardrum after colliding with Milwaukee Bucks guard Grayson Allen in the first half of Tuesday's game. He stayed in Milwaukee overnight to be checked by an ear specialist.

"He has a hole in his eardrum," Celtics interim coach Joe Mazzulla said before Wednesday's game. "So he's managing that, but he was cleared by the specialist and he's here, and he's ready to play."

White flew to Boston after his appointment in Milwaukee and arrived at TD Garden in time for warmups.

“I know he made it here in time for his shooting time and all the things that come before the game," Mazzulla added. "He’s safe, he’s healthy, he’s cleared by the specialist and can’t do more damage.”

That's excellent news for the C's as White has been on fire as of late. Over his last five games, he has averaged 25.0 points, 8.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds. He was named the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Feb. 6-12.
