Celtics roster moves: NBA-level, G-League squads come into focus

Romeo Langford explains how his play and preparation during Summer League and training camp have helped improve his confidence heading into the regular season.

The Boston Celtics' preseason is over, which means it's decision time for the front office ahead of Wednesday's season opener.

Those roster decisions reportedly already have begun. The Celtics are waiving Theo Pinson, Garrison Mathews and Chris Clemons, The Athletic's Jared Weiss reported Saturday.

Mathews is expected to become a free agent, per Weiss, while Pinson and Clemons will join recently-waived players Luke Kornet, Ryan Arcidiacono and Juwan Morgan on the G-League affiliate Maine Celtics.

Rookie Sam Hauser could see time in Maine this season as well after signing a two-way contract with the Celtics this summer. Here's who else could be on the Maine squad, per Weiss:

By process of elimination, here's what Boston's 15-man roster looks like as of this weekend, with Bruno Fernando and Jabari Parker appearing to claim the final two roster spots:

GuardsMarcus Smart, Dennis Schroder, Payton Pritchard, Josh Richardson
WingsJayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Aaron Nesmith, Romeo Langford, Jabari Parker

Parker's contract is non-guaranteed, so if the C's want to free up cap space, they can waive the veteran wing and enter the regular season with 14 players on the active roster. The Celtics also have an open two-way slot they could fill with a current free agent.

Boston's season begins Wednesday night against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
