BOSTON -- The Boston Celtics have picked up the third and fourth-year options on Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, respectively.
No surprise there.
The team also announced it was picking up the option year on Guerschon Yabusele, which was far from being a no-brainer.
All three will be signed through the 2019-2020 season.
The 6-foot-8 Yabusele has played sparingly since Boston selected him with the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. He spent a year playing in China before joining the Celts last season.
While he hasn’t played much thus far, his role may be enhanced over the next couple of weeks with Daniel Theis out with a tear of his right plantar fascia which will require Theis to be in a walking boot for a couple weeks and from there according to Theis, he’ll be day-to-day.
