The Boston Celtics have reportedly waived guard Rodney Purvis after acquiring him in a trade that sent Abdel Nader to Oklahoma City.
Purvis' contract was worth about $1.3 million and was non-guaranteed. The Celtics traded Nader, who had a partial guarantee of $450k if waived by August 1st. Instead of eating the extra money on Nader's deal, Danny Ainge sent him to the Thunder.
The Celtics now save more money on their luxury tax payment, a threshold they crossed after signing Marcus Smart to a four-year $52 million extension.
This roster move was expected from Boston, who's offseason moves might be wrapped up all together before the month of August. With last year's absolute overhaul of the roster, Celtics fans can sit back and relax as they gear up for a season returning many familiar faces.
