Report: Six teams, including Bruins, still in running for Tavares

As NHL free agency approaches Sunday, John Tavares has yet to narrow the field of six teams, including the Bruins, who are seeking his services, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

The New York Islanders, where the 27-year-old center has played the past nine seasons, Bruins, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs all made pitches to Tavares this week at his agents' offices in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Bruins center Patrice Bergeron told Canadian French-language network TVA that he also made a recruiting call to Tavares.

"I talked to him to answer all the questions he has about Boston," Bergeron told TVA. "I've been playing there for 18 years and it's like my home away from home. I told him about the city, the organization and our teammates."

"Now the ball is in his camp," Bergeron said. "We know that it must have been an eventful week for him....Hoping that [my initiative] has had an impact."

If Tavares return to the Islanders, he could sign up to an eight-year deal that would have to be completed before Saturday at midnight, after that he can only sign a seven-year pact with any of the suitors. The offers are reportedly all in the $11 million-per-season range.
