Ryan Getzlaf has played his entire 16-year career with the Anaheim Ducks and helped them win a Stanley Cup title in 2007. But as an unrestricted free agent at 36 years old, his career in Southern California could be coming to an end.
The Boston Bruins are one team that's been linked to Getzlaf during the build up to NHL free agency, which officially begins Wednesday at noon ET.

Getzlaf is not a suitable David Krejci replacement (if Krejci doesn't return to Boston in free agency). The Ducks captain is not that kind of player anymore. Getzlaf tallied just five goals and 12 assists in 48 games last season. He is, however, a good option for Boston's third line.
If the Bruins brought in Getzlaf on a cheap, short term deal, they could build a third line with Jake DeBrusk at left wing, Getzlaf at center and Charlie Coyle at right wing. This trio would give Boston plenty of size, toughness and some offensive skill.

The Bruins' primary need before next season is finding a legit top-four defenseman, either in free agency or the trade market. Bolstering their depth down the middle also makes sense, whether it's Getzlaf or another player.
