In a stunning development, former Bruins forward Colby Cave has been placed in a medically-induced coma at a Toronto area hospital at just 25 years old.
The undrafted center was a current member of the Edmonton Oilers organization who had played mostly for the Bakersfield Condors this season and was admitted to the critical care unit at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto after suffering a brain bleed overnight. Cave was a member of the Oilers organization after being waived by the Bruins in the 2018-19 season and finished his career with the Black and Gold with a goal and five points in 23 career games in Boston.

Cave’s best season with the B’s organization came in 2016-17 when he posted 13 goals and 35 points in 76 AHL games with the P-Bruins that preceded his two stints with the NHL club in Boston.
Jake DeBrusk and Cave were junior hockey teammates with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos prior to playing together with the Bruins as well, and DeBrusk retweeted something from the Swift Current team account sending along heartfelt prayers to Colby and his young wife Emily.
There was no further information from the Oilers organization about Cave’s health situation which seemingly came out of nowhere, so the hopes and prayers are obviously that the quiet, hard-working Saskatchewan kid makes a full recovery.
