Bruins vs. Hurricanes Highlights: Patrice Bergeron wins Game 1 with OT goal

Share

After a game 1 overtime win against Carolina, Bruce Cassidy discusses some of the natural frustrations that occur for players in the playoffs.

FINAL SCORE: Boston Bruins 4, Carolina Hurricanes 3 (OT)

IN BRIEF: Patrice Bergeron's fourth career overtime goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs -- the most in Boston Bruins history -- gave the B's a Game 1 win over the Hurricanes in their first-round playoff series.

The B's held leads of 2-1 and 3-2 but the Hurricanes did well to bounce back and force overtime. After dominating play in the first OT period, Bergeron scored just 1:12 into the second overtime frame to give Boston its first victory in the Toronto bubble.

David Krejci, Charlie Coyle and David Pastrnak also scored for the Bruins, who played with a lot more intensity and executed a ton better than they did throughout the round robin.

SERIES: 1-0 Bruins

HIGHLIGHTS
Joel Edmundson, who beat the Bruins in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final as a member of the St. Louis Blues, opened the scoring for the Hurricanes at 13:02 of the first period.

David Pastrnak equalized for the Bruins late in the first period. Patrice Bergeron won the offensive zone faceoff and Brad Marchand made a pretty pass to Pastrnak for the goal.

The Bruins took their first lead in the Toronto bubble when Charlie Coyle pounced on a loose puck in front of the net. The Hurricanes challenged the call for a "missed stoppage" but lost, and as a result they were given a delay of game penalty.

Carolina responded with the tying goal just 21 seconds into the B's power play when Brock McGinn scored on a shorthanded breakaway.

The Bruins took a 3-2 lead early in the third period when David Krejci cashed in. His 37th career playoff goal moves him past Hall of Famer Ray Bourque for seventh place on the Bruins' all-time leaderboard.

Carolina kept attacking with nine shots in the first 10 minutes of the third period and scored the equalizer on a point shot from Haydn Fleury.

Patrice Bergeron scored the game-winner with another clutch play.
