B's prospect Fabian Lysell ejected for check to head in WJC bronze medal game

Felger and Jim Murray to reports that Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk will miss time due to a fractured fibula. They also discuss whether or not this means the Bruins should sign another forward.

Boston Bruins prospect Fabian Lysell went to the 2023 World Junior Championship in Canada facing high expectations for himself and Sweden.

Unfortunately for Sweden, Lysell was one of the team's worst players at the tournament.

He didn't tally a single point in seven games, which is pretty surprising given his impressive goal-scoring ability and playmaking talent. Lysell posted six points in seven games at last year's World Juniors, and he entered this tournament having scored 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 20 games for the AHL's Providence Bruins.

Not only did Lysell fail to produce offensively, he also exited the tournament in disappointing fashion.

Lysell was ejected from Sweden's bronze medal game versus the United States on Thursday after he was given a five-minute match penalty for a check to the head of American forward Kenny Connors.

Lysell started the game as the 13th forward for Sweden. Team USA eventually won 8-7 in overtime to win the bronze medal.

There's no way to sugarcoat Lysell's time at the World Juniors. He didn't play well at all, and his hit on Connors was a bad one.

That said, Lysell has played very well as a 19-year-old in the AHL this season against bigger and stronger competition than he faced in the WHL during the 2021-22 campaign. He still has a bright future and could potentially see time in the NHL for the Bruins if injuries are a factor over the next few months.
