Bruins' Bruce Cassidy staying patient amid slow start to season

The Boston Bruins opened the 2019-20 season with victories over the Dallas Stars and Arizona Coyotes, and it's no thanks to the offense.

The B's tallied just three goals through their first two games, but head coach Bruce Cassidy isn't frustrated just yet.

"I wouldn't say frustration. I don't think we're playing the way we need to right now to score, not generating enough, let's start with that," Cassidy said according to BostonBruins.com's Eric Russo. "We're not playing off an original shot, we're trying to make plays through sticks that maybe aren't there."

Cassidy thinks the Bruins can score more goals by shooting the puck before the other team has time to get set in the defensive zone.

"That's how we scored the other night - we came down the wing, shot it, we got them before they were set in their coverage, got a puck to the slot and it found its way in," Cassidy said. "Those are the types of goals right now that our whole group needs to think about scoring. We talked about it today, whether it kicks in today or the next day, I don't know. I hope it's against Vegas because we are capable of more."

With the start of a new season comes fatigue, and Cassidy added that some players are still trying to get their legs going -- especially after a rather short offseason.

Bruins' lack of accountability over drafting and developing is concerning

Bruins' offseason to-do list must include acquiring an elite scorer

"I think it's just getting some reps, in-game live action for some of our guys that haven't played a lot," Cassidy said. "Part of that will clean itself up with these games on the schedule coming. [Vegas] is a heavy team, a good hockey team. It should get their attention."

If it doesn't get the team's attention, though, then maybe Cassidy gets a little more frustrated as the season rolls on.
