Bruins first round draft pick Fabian Lysell reacts to being selected 20th overall by the team in this year’s NHL draft.

Brett Harrison is elated to be joining the Boston Bruins organization, and not just because he's one step closer to fulfilling his dream of playing in the NHL.

The Bruins selected the 18-year-old center with the No. 85 overall pick (third round) of the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday afternoon.

Harrison actually has a few interesting connections to the Bruins.

"I've always been a Bruins fan, it just ran through the family," Harrison explained on a Zoom call with reporters. "My grandpa was best friends with (former Bruins defenseman) Gary Doak. So it was a dream come true when I saw my name pop up, and a moment that I'll never forget."

Harrison also noted his father is friends with Jack Studnicka's father. Studnicka, also a center, was a 2017 second-round pick of the Bruins.

Bruins' lack of accountability over drafting and developing is concerning

Should Bruins consider Mike Sullivan as a head coach candidate?

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Harrison is the type of big, versatile center the Bruins need in their prospect pool.

"I can play in all areas of the ice," Harrison said. "I'm a centerman but I can play both sides of the wing as well. I have a very high hockey IQ and a really great scoring touch. I find the soft areas in front of the net and in the slot. I love going to the dirty areas and producing on my chances in front."
