Russell Wilson now -140 to win MVP

Gibson, McKissic splitting touches
Rotoworld's Josh Norris and Kyle Dvorchak analyze Washington's backfield and try to determine why J.D. McKissic is cutting into Antonio Gibson's touches.

Even on a bye week, Russell Wilson‘s odds to win NFL MVP improved.

Wilson is now -140 at PointsBet Sportsbook, which means you have to lay $140 to win $100. The Seahawks’ star was +100 last week, but struggles by Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen caused Wilson’s odds to elevate even more without taking a single snap.

Sometimes in these markets, not doing anything wrong can go a long way.

Wilson has catapulted Seattle to an undefeated 5-and-0 record and he leads the NFL with 19 passing touchdowns and a 129.8 passer rating. He’s also completing a ridiculous 73 percent of his throws and averaging over 300 yards per game through the air.[[ad:athena]]

“It’s rare that you see a player at minus money this early in the season,” one professional bettor told NBC Sports. “He’s the best player in the game right now, but there’s a long way to go. There’s value on other players for MVP.”

Hmmmm. So where is the value?

Patrick Mahomes threw two more touchdowns as Kansas City improved to 5-and-1 this season with a nice road win over a pretty good Buffalo team. Mahomes rose from +550 to +400 on the odds sheet at PointsBet. Rodgers slid from +300 to +650 after the Buccaneers blasted the Packers. Allen fell quite a bit from +1000 to +2500 after going just 14-of-27 for 122 yards against the Chiefs.

The one player that really piques my interest is Derrick Henry (+4000). I know only four running backs have won the MVP in the last 20 years, but the Titans bulldozer leads the league in rushing on an undefeated team. And if Tennessee beats Pittsburgh this Sunday, odds are good that 40-to-1 won’t available on Monday.

Henry’s teammate Ryan Tannehill is the biggest riser in the market from +7000 to +3000. Lamar Jackson (+1400), Tom Brady (+2500) and Kyler Murray (+2800) all inched up a little bit while Ben Roethlisberger stayed the same at +2500. The biggest fallers are Cam Newton from +6600 to +9000 and Baker Mayfield from +4000 to +6600.
