Sandy Alcantara O/U 6.5 Strikeouts vs. Phillies

Sandy Alcantara gets a rematch with the Phillies after blanking them across 6.0 innings for two hits, nine strikeouts and three walks. That was just five days ago, and since then, the Phillies lost Bryce Harper to the injured list, plus J.T. Realmuto and Didi Gregorius.

Alcantara had eight strikeouts in five innings, punching six different hitters versus Philadelphia. Odubel Herrera and Alec Bohm join the lineup in this matchup. The two of them have three combined hits in 11 at-bats and two strikeouts against Alcantara.

With all the injuries, the effects should start to occur on Philly, if they have not already. The Phillies hold the second-highest strikeout rate and the sixth highest swing and miss rate in May -- a promising sign for Alcantara Round 2.

NBC’s model projects Alcantara to record 6.5 strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Alcantara has recorded at least six strikeouts in six of his 10 starts, totaling seven or more in four starts.

The Phillies own the sixth-worst strikeout percentage versus right-handed pitching (26%) on the season. Alcantara averages 1.05 strikeouts per inning and threw 30% of pitches in the strike zone in six of his 10 starts.

Rhys Hoskins, Andrew McCutchen, Andrew Knapp, Odubel Herrera and Nick Maton all have whiff percentages of 34.8% or higher versus Alcantara. Those five hitters will need to give Alcantara four-to-five strikeouts alone, but all seem likely to earn one strikeout. [[ad:athena]]

Alcantara went 6.0 innings or further in eight of his 10 starts this season and 100 or more pitches in two of the past three. I like him to accomplish both of those in his second meeting with the Phillies this season.

The Phillies have the most strikeouts over the last seven days at 68 Ks in six games. Philly ranks 24th with a .219 batting average and only 19 runs scored (21st) in that span.

Alcantara has been solid all season, with the exception to his one-start against the Dodgers. Alcantara bounced back with that nine strikeout performance versus the Phillies in the next outing, looking arguably the best in weeks.

Back the Marlins’ ace to record seven or more strikeouts against the free-swinging Phillies.

Pick: Sandy Alcantara Over 6.5 Strikeouts (1u)
