The lead has stretched to five as Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele utilized the Louisiana breeze to perfection Saturday afternoon. With winds in their sails, the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup teammates found the speed slot towards the end of their outward half.
Attempting to follow up their 13-under 59 from Round 1, Schauffele said, “We made more birdies than the rest of the field, I guess. Not as many as Thursday, but it was pretty windy and we sort of got our grip on the front nine, stayed very patient. Pat’s eagle kind of helped kick start the push, I guess, and Pat made a lot of nice birdies there coming to finish the round.”
Slow out of the gates, as Schauffele said, Cantlay’s eagle-3 on the par-5 seventh pushed the pair to 4-under, the score they would eventually turn in. Routinely getting two looks for birdie on each hole of the back-nine, Cantlay and Schauffele put together an effortless 8-under 28 to continue their dominance in the best-ball format.
Now 25-under in best-ball and 29-under overall, the two friends command a substantial advantage heading into tomorrow’s alternate shot format. Down to -750, we are in agreement with our friends at PointsBet Sportsbook that this edition of the Zurich Classic is all but over.

Round 4 Plays:
Max Homa/Talor Gooch +210 to finish inside the top-10:
Homa and Gooch currently sit in a tie for 14th-place at 18-under and have done most of their damage relative to the field in alternate shot in their two Zurich Classic appearances. Falling short in best-ball last season, the same can be said of this year as they have signed for rounds of 66-64.
Carding a 4-under 68 in the second round, Homa and Gooch were 6-under through 11 before the wheels fell off late. Once again proving their tee-to-green expertise can carry them in this format, they should be able to make up the one-stroke currently separating them from the top-10 on the leaderboard.
