We can finally rejoice; the first major of the year is here! It’s officially Masters week. As if there wasn’t enough to be excited about, this year adds a new level of anticipation. Tiger Woods’ name is still listed on the Masters’ website in the field of players. The five-time Masters winner was involved in a single-car wreck on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021. The hall of fame golfer had to be extricated from the wreck with the “jaws of life” by fighter fighters and paramedics. The damage done to Tiger’s body was severe and many believed he would never play another round of competitive golf again. Tiger is in Augusta practicing and preparing for a possible start of the 2022 Masters. He’s considered himself a “game-time” decision, only knowing if he will be able to play based on the response his body gives in preparation. The five-time champion’s odds are currently set on PointsBet Sportsbook at +8000.

The 91-golfer field is highlighted by odds-on favorite and one-time major champion Jon Rahm. The +1100 favorite continues his quest for his first green jacket. Rahm’s best finish at the Masters was a fourth-place finish in 2018. The former World No. 1 has finished inside the top-10 in his last four starts at Augusta. There could be a strong argument that at +120, it’s almost an auto-bet to back him to finish inside the top-10.

Defending champion Hideki Matsuyama is back in the field at +5000 odds. Outside of 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett, Matsuyama has one of the highest odds for a defending Masters champion. Despite his 2021 triumph, I am more likely to bet him to miss the cut than win the tournament. It’s hard to back a golfer in the outright market who is dealing with injury and had withdrawn in his last two events.

At first glance, I am interested in backing Cameron Smith at +1600. His price has come down considerably after his brilliant performance at the Players. He makes sense here for a lot of reasons. Despite being sometimes being wayward off the tee, he is a solid ball striker who easily has the best short game on tour. His putting prowess gives him an ultimate advantage here and he already has three top-10 finishes, one of which was a runner up.

Before deciding on who you are going to back in the outright market, take a look at the current odds for the 2022 Masters vis PointsBet Sportsbook:
