Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady came up short last year in team match play, and the betting public expects a similar result when the pair join forces again this week in Montana.
Mickelson and Brady lost a year ago to Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning in the sequel to the original Match where Mickelson edged Woods 1-on-1 in overtime. Lefty got a bit of revenge last fall when he and Charles Barkley cruised to an easy win over Manning and Steph Curry, and now he’s back with Brady in the fourth installment which will be played in primetime in Big Sky, Montana.

Mickelson and Brady will face another combo of major champion and decorated quarterback in Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers. DeChambeau and Rodgers have been the betting favorites since odds opened at PointsBet Sportsbook, but as the competition draws near the public is making their preference known. While DeChambeau and Rodgers were -160 favorites early Monday, with Mickelson and Brady listed at +130, that line has now shifted to a -190/+150 split.
Odds to win The Match 4 (via PointsBet)
-190 Bryson DeChambeau/Aaron Rodgers
+150 Phil Mickelson/Tom Brady
Both Mickelson and DeChambeau played last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, stirring up some controversy along the way. DeChambeau missed the cut as the defending champ, parting ways with his longtime caddie Tim Tucker on the eve of the opening round. Mickelson stuck around for all four days but spent much of his time firing off tweets, as he was critical of a report about him that came out in one of the local Detroit publications and implied he would not be returning to the event as a result. He softened that stance somewhat over the weekend but failed to get much going on the course, finishing T-74.

Of course, Mickelson didn’t struggle much in May when he won the PGA Championship - a fact that viewers can expect the six-time major winner to bring up with regularity during the competition. DeChambeau won earlier this year at Bay Hill and is currently ranked No. 6 in the world. Both men are expected to tee it up next week at The Open, which Mickelson won in 2013.
The match will feature modified alternate shot format and will include novelties like a one-club challenge hole and closest to the pin competition. There will also be a long drive contest on a 777-yard par-5 at Moonlight Basin, which should afford both Mickelson and DeChambeau an opportunity to swing for the fences. In terms of the quarterbacks, Rodgers likely has an edge: he played to a 3.5 handicap as recently as 2019, while Brady’s index is closer to 8.
