What Klay said to Draymond before ‘Game 6 Klay' performance

Draymond Green sat down with Kelenna Azubuike to reflect on one of his favorite Klay Thompson moments.

Every single Warriors fan remembers where they were on May 28, 2016 when "Game 6 Klay" was born in one of the most iconic performances in Warriors (and NBA) history.

With the 73-win Warriors trailing three games to two to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2016 Western Conference Finals, Klay Thompson made a then-NBA playoff-record 11 3-pointers to save Golden State's season. He finished with 41 points in a 108-101 win that forced a Game 7 back in Oakland, which the Warriors ultimately won.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports Bay Area's Kelenna Azubuike, Warriors forward Draymond Green was asked to recall his mindset during that thrilling game.

"How can I get him the ball? How can I get him open shots?" Green told Azubuike. "Whether that's me passing the ball, whether that's me setting the screen, how can I get him in a place where he's ready to shoot the ball?"

Thompson was in a zone, and Green revealed that the five-time NBA All-Star shooting guard predicted he was going to go off before Game 6 even started.

"It's funny, because Game 6 Klay, which is a real thing, I remember him coming to me before in OKC before that game, [saying] 'Hey Dray, just get me the ball. I'm about to go crazy,' " Green said. "And he come out and he's going crazy."

Nuggets firing coach Michael Malone ‘doesn't seem right' to Warriors' Steve Kerr

Why Steph vs. Booker matchup is key to Warriors-Suns outcome

The Warriors (4-1) host the Thunder (1-4) at Chase Center on Saturday night, and while Thompson won't play as he rehabs from a torn Achilles, he will be sitting courtside, maybe daydreaming about authoring another performance like he did on the May night in 2016.

If Thompson can ramp back up to full strength by the end of the season, and the Warriors make the playoffs, he might just have a chance to add to the "Game 6 Klay" legacy.

And Draymond will be there, finding ways to get Thompson open shots.
