The expected unfortunately became reality for the Warriors on Thursday when the Warriors announced that Klay Thompson had suffered a torn Achilles tendon and is expected to be out for the season.
After missing all of last season to rehab a torn ACL, Thompson now will miss a second full season in order to heal from another devastating injury.
The Warriors had plans to vault back into title contention this season behind a healthy Steph Curry and Thompson. With Thompson out for the season, the Warriors now must pivot and find a way to patch the huge hole left in their lineup and can apply for a $9.3 million disabled player exception to be used sign, trade or claim a player on a one-year contract, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

With free agency slated to begin Friday, the Warriors now will have their $17.2 million trade exception, the $9.3 million disabled player exception and the taxpayer midlevel exception to use to round out their roster around Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman.

The Warriors' plans to return to the top of the NBA took a huge hit with Thompson's injury and it's a brutal blow to one of the most beloved players in the NBA.

Thompson now will miss his age 29 and age 30 seasons after being at the peak of his powers in the 2019 NBA Finals prior to tearing his ACL in Game 6. When he returns, it will have been 28 months since he last played in an NBA game.
Golden State now must try and figure out a way to go on without Thompson this season. A task that's easier said than done.
