Kerr: Steph will scrimmage Thursday to determine Game 1 status

For a few hours on Tuesday, it was unclear if Steph Curry would indeed scrimmage with the Warriors on Thursday as he tries to return in time for Game 1 of their first-round NBA playoff series against the Denver Nuggets.

But coach Steve Kerr cleared that up during an interview on 95.7 The Game later in the day.

"That's the plan," Kerr told Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto. "That's the plan. He's been doing stuff on the court every day. But totally non-contact to this point. So the plan would be to have him scrimmage Thursday but he's got a couple days left, couple bars to clear until he can get to that point."

The Warriors issued an update on Curry's sprained foot on Tuesday morning, noting that he is making "good progress" but that his status for Game 1 on Saturday night at Chase Center still is undetermined. The two-time NBA MVP sustained the injury on March 16 in a loss to the Boston Celtics.

Asked by Ratto if Thursday is the last chance for the Warriors to make a decision on Curry for Game 1 or if they could decide later even if he doesn't do much in the scrimmage, Kerr wasn't sure.

"I have no idea," Kerr said. "Now we're just getting into the weeds on it. So, he'll scrimmage Thursday. The training staff will tell me how he responds. Steph will tell me how he's feeling. Friday, we'll have a good feeling one way or the other. And then at that point, we'll make a decision."

If Curry is unable to play in Game 1, he won't have much time to get ready for the next matchup as the NBA announced Tuesday night that Game 2 will take place Monday night at Chase Center.
