Kerr admits Dubs' struggles feel like ‘championship hangover'

Steve Kerr believes the Warriors’ slow start to the season can possibly be attributed to a “championship hangover” and reveals changes in his rotations are coming.

Steve Kerr had no issue saying what many had been thinking about the Warriors' slow start to the 2022-23 NBA season.

Golden State's 130-129 loss to the Orlando Magic on Thursday night at Amway Center was its fourth straight loss and dropped the Warriors to an ugly 3-6 record.

In speaking to reporters after the game, Kerr admitted that the team's slow start to the season is starting to have an ominous feeling and that nobody will save them except for themselves.

"It feels like a little bit of a championship hangover," Kerr said. "I don't think even our main guys have played great defense. And then there's some inexperienced young guys, new guys on the roster, so we haven't built that defensive identity and cohesiveness yet and that's gotta come. But I told the guys, we have to save us, because nobody else is coming. Every team can't wait to play us. Orlando was great tonight, Miami was great the other night, Charlotte, Detroit. We're the defending champs, we come in here and they can't wait to play us. And if you're not defending and you're fouling, you're putting yourself in a dangerous spot."

The Warriors are too talented of a team to finish the season with a losing record and likely will find a way to turn things around sooner rather than later.

However, as Kerr mentioned, any turnaround will have to be generated by those in-house, and Golden State's chances of repeating as champions lie solely in their own hands.
