Warriors purchase Bucks' pick, take UNLV's McCaw

OAKLAND –- The Warriors entered the NBA Draft with one pick and hoping to shore up one of two areas, adding either a big man or a wing.

They got both.

After taking Vanderbilt center Damian Jones in the first round, the Warriors then bought Milwaukee’s second-round pick, the 38th overall, and selected 6-foot-7 UNLV wing Patrick McCaw.

[POOLE: Warriors select Vanderbilt center Damian Jones 30th overall]

McCaw is an above average athlete and considered one of the best defenders in the draft. The All-Mountain West Conference swingman with a 6-10 wingspan finished second in the nation in steals (2.5 per game), including five games in which he had at least five steals.

McCaw averaged 14.7 points per game, 10th in the conference, and 3.9 assists (fourth) and 33.7 minutes (seventh). His shooting percentage, 46.5, ranked sixth and his 3-point percentage (36.6) was seventh. He also averaged 5.2 rebounds per game.

An area of concern with McCaw would be his strength, as he weighs only about 190 pounds. As someone who grew eight inches in high school, his body has yet to fill out.
