Oubre tries, fails hilariously ambitious putback vs. Knicks

Kelly Oubre Jr. has never met a putback dunk attempt he didn't like, as evidenced Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

Oubre grabbed an offensive rebound off Steph Curry's missed 3-pointer in the third quarter of the Warriors' 114-106 win against the New York Knicks, attempting a putback that, charitably, would've required him to have the ability to extend his arm like Michael Jordan in "Space Jam," or any number of stretchy superheroes.

It didn't take long for Oubre to realize he wasn't Reed Richards, Ralph Dibny and/or Helen Parr, sharing a laugh with his teammates after his tried dunk went horribly wrong.

Oubre wasn't flustered by the miss after the win, insisting to reporters in a postgame video conference that he was fouled on the play and that he otherwise would've pulled it off.

"Always think I have a chance," Oubre said of the dunk attempt. "Always think that nobody can jump with me, except for [Portland Trail Blazers forward] Derrick Jones Jr."

Oubre's confidence lately has been at its highest point all season, with his slow start to the season a distant memory. Entering Tuesday, Oubre was averaging 20.4 points per game in February, shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 46.4 percent on 3-pointers. He scored 19 points and added eight rebounds in Tuesday's win.

Every player has limits, though, even those who are on fire like Oubre is this month. He'll probably be just a bit less ambitious the next time he grabs an offensive rebound.
