The Warriors took the first step to bring back Patrick McCaw on Tuesday, issuing a qualifying offer that will make the guard a restricted free agent, according to multiple reports. The qualifying offer is worth $1.641 million, according to The Mercury News.
McCaw still has the opportunity to sign elsewhere, but Golden State will now have the right of refusal. The club would have a week to match any other team's offer sheet.
A second-round pick in 2016, McCaw averaged 4.0 points, on 40.9 percent shooting, in just under 17 minutes per game in his second NBA season. McCaw seriously injured his back after a scary fall against the Sacramento Kings in March, but ultimately returned for mop-up duty in the final six games of the postseason.

McCaw is one of seven pending Warriors free agents this summer. That group is headlined by Kevin Durant, who has repeatedly made it clear he will return to Golden State.
