Draymond named All-Star reserve, but says he won't play

The Warriors will have three players representing the team later this month in Cleveland, as Draymond Green was named a Western Conference reserve for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game.

Green joins Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins, who were named starters from the West.

Green was on the "NBA TNT Tip-off" broadcast during the time of the announcement, and Charles Barkley was the one who opened the card revealing Draymond's name.

After all the Western Conference reserves were announced, Green told the TNT crew that he "won't be able to play in the game" due to the injury that has kept him out of the Warriors' lineup for several weeks.

Draymond has not played a full game since Jan. 5, as he deals with a lower back/disc issue. The Warriors' latest official update on Feb. 1 says Green is "progressing" and will be re-evaluated prior to the All-Star break.

Prior to his injury, Draymond was averaging 7.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists and was a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year. The Warriors' offensive rating has slipped since Green went out, although the franchise still owns the NBA's best defensive rating heading into Thursday's clash with the Kings.

This is Draymond's fourth All-Star appearance, and first since the 2017-18 season.
