Steph, Klay, Dray measure Kerr's ‘incredible' Warriors impact

Success has followed Steve Kerr throughout every stop of his NBA journey.

The Warriors' head coach has established himself as one of the winningest coaches in the game today and you'll hear nothing but praise from the players who helped lead the way.

Golden State's iconic trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green sat down with NBC Sports Bay Area's Warriors color commentator Kelenna Azubuike for the "A Decade in the Bay" series, where they each discussed Kerr's importance to the organization both on and off the court.

"He just brought his humility, his consistency and his empathy for people," Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area. "That's a big part of his career and just understanding what it takes to be an NBA player, all the different things that have to go right within an organization to put yourselves in position to be successful. He's been in pretty much every seat, player, coach, GM, analyst, everywhere in between. He has a lot of different vantage points on how to communicate and manage people. The care level is through the roof in terms of (players) 1-15, like we're going to approach it the same way."

Before he became Golden State's head coach in 2014, Kerr was previously the general manager with the Phoenix Suns and before that, an NBA analyst with TNT. During his playing career, Kerr was best known for his heroics with Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls, where he won three NBA Championships and even got punched in the face by Jordan himself during a scuffle in practice.

"The success he's had at the helm it's been incredible," Thompson said. "Steve just has a brilliant mind for the game, he's an ultra competitor which we all respect. If you get under Michael Jordan's skin, you're doing something right. I've greatly enjoyed playing for Steve and he's a shooter, he knows what the rhythm of a shooter takes. He's really helped my game flourish."

Kerr has always been known as a level-headed leader, a calming presence within the Warriors' locker room. That's certainly something that a fiery player like Draymond has benefited from. Just like Draymond, though, Kerr has been known to snap every once in a while.

"Just the way he goes about things, coach Kerr is more mindfulness than rah-rah," Green added. "How he's helped me specifically, number one, my temperament. Just calming down and understanding the moment, taking it all in and then getting a point across. Understanding when to get that point across and when not to. Understanding when there is a time to say something and when there is not to. There's a time to blow up and not a time to blow up. And obviously the help he's provided me in becoming a better player."

In Kerr's seven-plus seasons as Warriors coach, Golden State has experienced no shortage of success, something the 56-year-old has grown accustomed to throughout a decorated career that has produced eight total championship rings as a player, executive and coach.

Could a ninth be on the way?
