Warriors' 73-9 record safe after Bucks fall to Lakers for 10th loss

The Warriors' NBA record for most wins a season is safe for another year.

The Milwaukee Bucks lost to the Los Angeles Lakers, 113-103, on Friday night, dropping their season record to 53-10, meaning they can't match the Warriors' 73-9 record from the 2015-16 season.

The best the Bucks can do is 72-10, which would equal the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.

Giannis Antetokounmpo did everything in his power to keep 73-9 alive Friday, but his big night wasn't enough.

The reigning MVP finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis were just too much for the Bucks. The All-Star duo combined for 67 points and 17 rebounds. The Lakers also clinched their first playoff appearance since 2013 with the win.

During last weekend's NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast of the Warriors and Washington Wizards, NBC Sports NBA Insider Tom Haberstroh compared this Bucks team to the 2015-16 Warriors when discussing who he thinks will win the NBA title this season.

"I would take the Bucks as the favorite, but not the field," Haberstroh told Bob Fitzgerald and Kelenna Azubuike. "I'm on Team Bucks, over the Lakers and the Clippers. I think the Bucks are on another level. They're like the 2016 Warriors right now. Yes, the Warriors didn't win the title in 2016, but it took a lot of injuries and attrition to make that happen."

The Bucks won't be able to match the Warriors' regular-season record, but they still have a very good chance to raising the Larry O'Brien trophy, which Golden State was unable to do that season.
