How Kerr, Warriors plan on filling the final roster spot

With training camp right around the corner, Steve Kerr and the Warriors have plenty of decisions to make ahead of the start of the 2021-22 NBA season.

One of those decisions is what to do with Golden State's 15th and final roster spot.

Steve Kerr joined The Athletic's Tim Kawakami's "The TK Show," where he discussed what the team was planning to do with the open roster spot.

“The way we’re looking at it is that it’s up in the air," Kerr told Kawakami. "We may or may not use it, but that’s what training camp is for. You get a really good look at some guys, there are some really interesting names, people who are really proven players in the league. You get a chance to get a good look at those guys and some young guys who are trying to make it in the league."

The Warriors didn't make a splash this offseason, electing to add on the cheap and prioritize value. Otto Porter Jr., Nemanja Bjelica and Andre Iguodala all signed minimum contracts valued at around $7 million combined.

Gary Payton II could get some consideration for the final spot, while the Warriors also have expressed interest in veterans such as Avery Bradley, Quinn Cook, Isaiah Thomas and Darren Collison.

For now, the Warriors won't commit one way or another and will wait and see how training camp plays out.

"We’re just kind of leaving everything open and figuring this is what camp is for, you get a really good look at somebody, you throw them out there in exhibition games and you figure out exactly how you’re going to put your roster together," Kerr said.
