Curry and Warriors preparing for ‘mental warfare' in Game 2

The Warriors walloped the Denver Nuggets 123-107 in Game 1, boosted by Steph Curry’s return and strong efforts from Jordan Poole, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

Mental toughness is one of the intangible factors that championship-caliber teams have.

The Warriors know a thing or two about that.

After Golden State's 123-107 win over the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of the first-round NBA playoff series at Chase Center, Steph Curry was asked about how the team will prepare for Monday's Game 2 matchup.

"It's just mental warfare at the end of the day," Curry told ABC 7's Chris Alvarez. "We know they're going to come out with energy. We try and make adjustments, we're going to have to match that energy, we're going to have to win the game with our brains and IQ. I think that's the biggest thing for Game 2, how can you take the next step in our efficiency and our execution. At the end of the day, if we can get this one, we're off to a good start."

The Warriors were able to take down Denver in Game 1 relatively easily, riding a wave of momentum that appeared insurmountable once Curry made his return to the court after missing the final month of the season due to a sprained foot ligament.

How the Nuggets respond to the series-opening loss remains to be seen. If one thing is certain, though, it's that coach Michael Malone and his squad will look to gain an advantage and outsmart Golden State any way they can in Game 2.
