Steph becomes Warriors' all-time franchise leader in assists

Steph Curry is known globally for his game-changing shooting. But the Warriors' superstar also is an elite passer.

And now he's the greatest passer in the storied history of the Warriors' franchise.

With his second assist against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night at Chase Center, Curry passed Guy Rodgers for most assists by a Warriors player with 4,856.

Curry tied Rodgers in the first quarter on a sweet pass to rookie James Wiseman, who drove to the hoop and soared in for the layup.

Curry came close to catching and passing Rodgers on Sunday against the Utah Jazz, but he finished with nine assists in that game, one shy of tying Rodgers.

Rodgers, who played for the Philadelphia Warriors and San Francisco Warriors from 1958 through 1966, needed 587 games to amass 4,855 assists in a Warriors uniform. Curry broke that mark in his 737th career game.

Along with assists, Curry soon will become the franchise leader in points scored. Curry entered Monday's game against the Lakers needing 280 points to pass Wilt Chamberlain for the most in franchise history.

Curry still has a long way to go in his career, but he's already establishing himself as the greatest player to ever wear the uniform.
