Steph Curry injury update: Hopes return is as close to Jan. 7 as possible

Steph Curry will remain out of the Warriors' lineup through at least Jan. 7, 2023, but the reigning NBA Finals MVP doesn't expect to be out much longer than that.

During an interview with ESPN on ABC's Lisa Salters before the second quarter of the Warriors' Christmas Day matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, Curry was asked about when he believes he can return from a left shoulder subluxation.

"I'm hoping as close to that two weeks as possible," Curry told Salters. "More so, that gives you time to really lock in on the rehab process and every check-box you got to go through to get back to 5-on-5 action. Hopefully, the back-end will be a lot faster than this front-end."

Curry sustained the injury during the Warriors' loss to the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 14, and Golden State announced Saturday that he would be re-evaluated in two weeks.

If Curry is out through at least Jan. 7, he will miss the Warriors' next six games, not including the Christmas Day game with the Grizzlies. Golden State's next game after that two-week period is against the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 10 at home. After that game, the Warriors head out for a five-game road trip that takes them to San Antonio (Jan. 13), Chicago (Jan. 15), Washington (Jan. 16), Boston (Jan. 19) and Cleveland (Jan. 20).

While the Warriors announced Saturday that Curry is "making good progress," he provided his own update to Salters.

"Every day is getting better," Curry said. "When I first hurt it, they gave me kind of a multi-week timeline and every day it's getting better, trending in the right direction, so hopefully I can keep making progress and get back to get on the floor, contact and all that, get back on the court and play basketball."
