Steph has perfect review of Wiseman's first Warriors practice

After missing the first week of practice, James Wiseman hit the court Monday. His new coach and new front-court mate discussed what they saw from the No. 2 overall pick.

The bar is set quite high for James Wiseman.

The Warriors were thrilled the 7-foot center fell to them at No. 2 in the NBA draft, giving them an ultra-athletic center who could be molded into the next version of Giannis Antetokounmpo over time.

Wiseman has only practiced once for the Warriors in training camp, but the reviews of his first on-court action have had a theme: Energy.

Steph Curry was asked about the rookie's first practice in a Warriors uniform and it's clear everyone, Curry included, is excited about Wiseman.

"Extremely high ceiling," Curry told reporters of Wiseman's first practice after the Warriors' preseason loss to the Kings. "Excited for him to get some reps and be in a game-like situation. His energy (in practice) was crazy.

"It was like letting a puppy out the cage."

Steve Kerr, Draymond Green and Bruce Fraser all praised Wiseman's energy after practice No. 1.

Warriors confident in new two-big lineup for short stints vs. Rockets

Wiseman missed the first week of training camp and did not play in the Warriors' first two preseason games. While it has not yet been announced, it is "unlikely" that Wiseman plays in the Warriors' preseason finale on Thursday.

Without Wiseman and Green on the court, the Warriors have played a different style of basketball. With Kevon Looney and Marquese Chriss both undersized for the center position, Kerr has asked them to take their game out to the arc to make the bigger centers prowl the perimeter.

When Wiseman and Green are back, the Warriors will be able to match up better with the elite 7-footers of the Western Conference.

Wiseman's athleticism will make him a rim-running threat on the offensive end and a defensive eraser on the other.

The 19-year-old still has a lot of growing to do. But one thing is clear: The Warriors are excited to have him, and the rookie is ready to work.
