Steph favors Warriors' latest title over rings won with KD

On the latest Dubs Talk, Monte Poole broke down the reasons as to why Steph Curry is still undervalued in the NBA even after his incredible Finals performance.

Just how meaningful was the Warriors’ latest championship to Steph Curry? It was worth more to him than his second and third titles combined.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Ashley Nicole Moss, Curry was asked what he’d rather have -- the 2022 championship or the two titles Golden State won during the Kevin Durant era from 2016-19.

“No, I want this one,” Curry said. “No, give me this one, all day every day.”

Golden State was crowned champions twice during Durant’s three years in the Bay, in 2017 and ’18. Those remain Durant’s two lone championships. He deservedly was named MVP of both series.

Curry was named the MVP of the 2022 NBA Finals for the first time in his career, crossing off one of the few missing accomplishments from his resume. His emotion was on display in the final seconds of the Warriors’ championship-clinching win over the Boston Celtics in Game 6.

“You don’t find me ugly crying on the court for no reason,” Curry said. “That raw emotion that came out after Game 6 kind of signaled how much it meant to me, how much it meant to our team.

“The first [championship], you don’t really know what you’re doing until you accomplish it, and then you’re celebrating. The next two were kind of validation, trying to remain champions. But after these last three years and winning that [2022 title], definitely the most special.”

Draymond Green shared Curry’s sentiment while the Finals were ongoing.

“As you grow and realize those things, they aren’t promised and you try not to take these things for granted and understand that you are probably closer to the end than you are the beginning,” Green said in June. “It’s just a totally different appreciation that you have for these moments now as opposed to then.”

Curry, Green, and Klay Thompson will officially begin their mission for championship ring No. 5 when the Warriors open training camp on Sept. 24.

If the Warriors can claim another championship, ranking Curry’s favorite titles might get harder and harder for the superstar.
