Steph details shoulder injury progress, potential return date

Steph Curry joins the Warriors broadcast during Wednesday’s game against the Pistons and says his health has improved enough to target Jan. 13 against the Sa Antonio Spurs as his return date.

It appears that Steph Curry will return to the court sooner rather than later.

Speaking to NBC Sports Bay Area's Bob Fitzgerald and Kelenna Azubuike in the third quarter of the Warriors' stunning 122-119 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday at Chase Center, the reigning NBA Finals MVP shared an update on his rehab.

"Everything's headed in the right direction in terms of getting back, hopefully, next week," Curry told Fitzgerald and Azubuike. "You know, weird injury for me in terms of something I haven't had before and just getting through that initial healing process."

Curry suffered a left shoulder subluxation on Dec. 14 in Golden State's 125-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers and has missed that Warriors' last 10 games. In that span, the Warriors have gone 6-4, including a five-game winning streak that was snapped by the Pistons.

Nevertheless, the Warriors definitely would like to have their star back and it appears the 34-year-old's return is days away as he continues to ramp up his rehab process.

"Been on the court the past couple days, really trying to test it, see where I am, working on my strength, endurance with my shoulder and all that," Curry continued. "The body feels good -- I don't think I've lost anything there so I'm excited to get back out there and join my guys."

If all goes well with Curry's shoulder re-evaluation on Jan. 7, he realistically could make his return on Jan. 13 against the San Antonio Spurs at the Alamo Dome, per Warriors general manager and president of basketball operations Bob Myers.

Considering there have been no reported setbacks during Curry's rehab, all signs point to him returning very soon.
