Source: Warriors' Kevon Looney could return during NBA Finals

Warriors big man Kevon Looney is being re-evaluated later Thursday to determine if he can play in the NBA Finals. The injury being reported -- fractured cartilage -- is accurate, but a source told NBC Sports Bay Area's Logan Murdock it’s possible to play through, and that the affected area is in the sternum and ribs, not the collarbone.

The Warriors announced Monday night that Looney is out indefinitely after sustaining the non-displaced first costal cartilage fracture during Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Raptors.

On Tuesday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters that the 23-year-old would miss the rest of the series.

The Warriors certainly missed Looney's defensive presence in the Game 3 loss Wednesday night, as Toronto shot over 52 percent from the field and nearly 45 percent from 3-point territory.

Through Game 1 against the Raptors, Looney was averaging 7.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in 20.9 minutes per game during the playoffs.
