Skip Bayless wrong for saying Kevin Durant ‘coasting' by not returning

Former Warriors superstar Kevin Durant will not be suiting up for any of the Brooklyn Nets' games when the 2019-20 NBA season resumes in Orlando.

"My season is over," the two-time NBA Finals MVP told The Undefeated's Marc Spears last week. "I don’t plan on playing at all ... it’s just best for me to wait. I don’t think I’m ready to play that type of intensity right now in the next month.

"It gives me more time to get ready for next season and the rest of my career."

On Tuesday morning, Fox Sports' Skip Bayless expressed his feelings about KD's decision on his "Undisputed" show.

"I am disappointed in the best player on the planet," he said. "It makes me wonder about Kevin because great players just play. Michael Jordan came back early from injury. All the great ones, they just played because they loved the game.

"I don't know what's Kevin doing. This feels like coasting to me. This feels like a little semi-retirement. 'I won my two rings in Golden State. What more do you want from me?' Play Kevin, play!"

If you're disappointed because you simply miss watching KD play, that's fine and understandable. Nothing wrong with that.

Dennis Jr. views Warriors as ‘most dangerous' team entering playoffs

But to question Durant's intent or toughness is beyond absurd. Creating a narrative that he is "coasting" is asinine and shameful.

A torn Achilles is an extremely significant injury to overcome, and the two-time NBA champion needs to do what is best for him.

"By July 31, is that enough time to be right? You better believe it is," Bayless added. "This is where you show somebody what you're made of."

Ridiculous. Insane. Nuts.

The circumstances surrounding the NBA right now are unprecedented, and it's 100 percent justified for KD to bypass the Orlando bubble.

Also, Bayless admitted part of the reason he wants the four-time scoring champion to take the court is so he possibly can prevent LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers from winning the title.

As he told co-host Shannon Sharpe, "You're just happy that LeBron gets another break and another pass."

Let's move on before yours truly actually gets upset at these silly hot takes.
