Report: Warriors rejected outlandish Simmons trade offer

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Kendra Andrews addresses the trade rumors being floated by ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that the Warriors could make a push to acquire 76ers star Ben Simmons.

Bob Myers probably fell over laughing when he heard the request before promptly hanging up the phone.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey reported Thursday, citing league sources, that the Warriors rejected a ridiculous trade offer for Ben Simmons, with the Philadelphia 76ers asking for James Wiseman, Andrew Wiggins, the No. 7 and No. 14 pick Thursday's 2021 NBA Draft and two more future first-round picks.

This is in line with a recent report from The Ringer, confirmed by Pompey, that the San Antonio Spurs turned down an ask of four first-round picks, three pick swaps and a young player for Simmons.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that the 76ers were asking for a "Harden-esque" return for Simmons, despite the former first-round pick's struggles in the postseason.

A league executive told Pompey that the 76ers are making "outlandish offers" in any deal for Simmons.

The Warriors, meanwhile, are on the hunt for another star they can pair with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, with Bradley Beal reportedly being the apple of their eye. However, the Washington Wizards star has yet to request a trade and the Warriors reportedly don't expect a deal to happen before the NBA draft.

Draymond admits he didn't always love playing defense for Warriors

Simmons is a talented player, but his fit with the Warriors would be a questionable one. His defensive ability would pair well with Green and having him initiate the offense would allow Curry to hunt more off-ball. But Simmons' lack of an offensive game could bog the Warriors down late in games, and having both he and Green on the floor in crunch time could make life tough on Curry.

The Warriors certainly will continue to monitor the situation, but the price will have to come down significantly in order for Simmons to become a realistic possibility.
