Report: JTA expected to eventually land Warriors roster spot

Juan Toscano-Anderson picked De’Aaron Fox’s pocket — which isn’t easy to do — and finished with a windmill dunk, which isn’t easy to pull off either.

The Warriors on Thursday traded Brad Wanamaker to the Charlotte Hornets and Marquese Chriss to the San Antonio Spurs.

They didn't receive any players in return, which means there are two slots open on the team's 15-man roster.

It appears Juan Toscano-Anderson -- who is on a two-way contract -- will be rewarded at some point in the coming weeks.

"One of Thursday’s vacated full-time roster spots is expected to eventually go to him, I’m told," The Athletic's Anthony Slater writes. "Though there is no rush."

The Warriors are in no hurry to convert JTA's deal because the NBA adjusted the rules this season to allow two-way players to suit up for an unlimited number of games, and they now are eligible for the playoffs.

Furthermore, it's safe to assume the franchise will be patient from a financial/luxury tax perspective.

"Because this year's tax payments will be reduced by the amount basketball-related income falls short of pre-pandemic projections, it's unclear exactly how much tax the Warriors stood to pay," ESPN's Kevin Pelton writes. "Still, their pre-reduction tax bill would have been $137 million and has now been slashed to approximately $117 million, depending on how quickly they fill their open 14th roster spot."

Toscano-Anderson was terrific in the Warriors' loss to the Sacramento Kings on Thursday, recording 15 points (6-for-6 from the field, 3-for-3 on 3s), six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 26 minutes.

If Draymond Green is out again Friday night vs. the Atlanta Hawks, it's safe to assume Toscano-Anderson will be right back in the starting lineup.
