Klay resting; Poole questionable for Warriors-Pistons

On the second game of the Warriors’ first back-to-back of the 2022-23 NBA season, it was expected that the team’s veterans might see some rest Sunday against the Detroit Pistons.

While Steph Curry and Draymond Green will suit up and play in the contest, Klay Thompson will take a rest day.

Jordan Poole tweaked his ankle late in the Warriors’ 120-113 overtime loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday and is listed as questionable for the game against the Pistons.

Thompson, who had his first healthy start to the season since 2018 after rehabbing from two lower leg injuries, has gotten off to a slow start offensively.

The 32-year-old was 5-for-14 from the field in Saturday’s loss and struggled from behind the 3-point line, draining just 1 of 7 attempts.

After making a triumphant return to the court in January, Thompson didn’t play in any of the Warriors’ remaining back-to-backs last season. That could be the case this year as well, or at least until he can “get his legs underneath him,” as coach Steve Kerr put it on Saturday when discussing Thompson's struggles.

The Warriors also might be missing Poole, who left Saturday’s game during overtime after rolling his right ankle. The injury is listed as a sprain on the Warriors-Pistons injury report.

Should Poole miss Sunday’s matchup with Detroit, his presence certainly will be missed after scoring 24 points off the bench against the Hornets.

But as the team looks to improve upon their .500 record at 3-3 on Sunday, they’ll have veterans Curry and Green to help lead the way.
