Wiseman says Klay lit him up for forgetting poker chips

Bob Myers met with the media and stated his belief that James Wiseman will be a big part of the Warriors success both in the present and the future.

James Wiseman's rookie year with the Warriors was full of ups and downs. He learned plenty of lessons both on and off the court as someone who still was a teenager the majority of the season.

But his first real rookie mistake actually came on the Warriors' team plane, and Klay Thompson didn't let him off easy

"I think it was like the first half of the season. Steph said, 'Rook, I'ma give you these poker chips but you've got to protect them with your life,' " Wiseman said in his latest video diary for The Undefeated. "I was on my way to the plane and I forgot the poker chips.

"Man, Klay lit my a-- up. He was like, 'Damn rook, how you forgettin' them poker chips!' That was like my first mistake ever, losing the poker chips.

"Everybody was clownin' me. They was like, 'Man, you forgot the poker chips!' "

Wiseman's rookie season ended early after injuring his right meniscus in mid-April. He played 39 games (27 starts) and averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

The Warriors selected Wiseman with the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. At times he looked like a future star. But more times than not, he looked a bit lost as a teenager who played just 69 minutes of college basketball.

In a year full of lessons, forgetting the poker chips might have been the biggest.

"Man, I had to order some off of Amazon the next day so they would just come instantly," Wiseman said. "As soon as we got off in the next city, they was right there."
