Draymond shoulders blame after Warriors get ‘punked' vs. Magic

Draymond Green didn’t hold back during his postgame press conference, declaring that the Warriors got “punked” by what he called “one of the worst teams in the league”.

Draymond Green takes pride in being the Warriors' vocal leader on the court.

In his postgame press conference after Golden State's 94-90 loss to the Orlando Magic at Amway Center on Tuesday night, Green called the team's efforts "soft" and believes they were "punked" against one of the NBA's worst teams.

On Wednesday, Draymond clarified his comments on the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, shouldering the blame as Golden State's leader on the court.

"As you may have heard in my press conference after the Orlando Magic game, a large part of that is us getting punked," Green said. "I said that to my teammates so I'm not afraid to say that and what I didn't say is that the reality is that falls on me. That's my category, that's where I excel, that's where I lead. I have to do better at that, I can't let that happen. That falls on me. I know someone asked me last night if that would be different if Steph Curry was in the game and the answer is no. It wouldn't be, because that's not Steph Curry's duty. So if I failed at that currently, no matter who is on the floor, Steph Curry is not coming to make us tougher. That's not what Steph does, that's not what I'm ever going to allow Steph to do. So that falls on me regardless of who is on the floor.

"You can't be out-toughed, you have to be tough you have to meet the level of physicality. Like I said, the playoffs are coming up, so meeting the level of physicality is more important that anything. Being mentally strong is more important than anything. And that's two areas that our team has been lacking in."

While Curry recovers from a sprained ligament in his foot, the Warriors will be without their best player for at least two weeks. Even though Curry is the star of the team, Draymond is the leader on the court. He knows his role and embraces it.
