Draymond explains what puts him above Gobert, Simmons for DPOY

In Draymond Green's mind, there is no debate.

The Warriors' star forward has been adamant that he is the best defender in NBA history. When it comes to this year's Defensive Player of the Year Award, for which Green is a finalist, he believes it is clear what sets him apart from Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert and Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons.

"You didn't name not one person who can control the game from the defensive side of the floor," Green told Bleacher Report's Taylor Rooks when asked why she should have put him in her top three for DPOY over Gobert, Simmons and Bam Adebayo. "I think what [Gobert] does on the defensive side of the ball is incredible. I think the way he protects the rim is incredible. Defense is more than just protecting the rim.

"Y'all don't judge defense the same way you judge offense. There is no offensive situation where you don't want Steph Curry on the floor. There is no offensive situation where you don't want James Harden on the floor. There is no offensive situation where you don't want LeBron James on the floor. Well, guess what? There's no defensive situation where you don't want me on the floor.

"Everybody like, 'Look, oh, man, this guy led the league in steals, that guy led the league in blocks.' But is there a situation where you can put that guy in and make him uncomfortable? For most guys, yes. You can't put me in a situation on defense and make me uncomfortable."

Green makes a good point. He is one of the few defensive players who can completely destroy an offense. His versatility, intelligence and tenacity make him arguably the premier defender in the NBA.

Most expect Gobert to win the award after putting together an incredible season for the best team in the Western Conference.

But Green has a good case to win the award, and, as he said, if people viewed defense the same way they do offense, he would be the runaway winner.
