Draymond explains why he's vital to Warriors' offense

Warriors insider Monte Poole wouldn’t be surprised to see Draymond Green after the NBA All-Star break as there is no timetable on the progress from his calf-injury.

Draymond Green's impact on both offense and defense has been a vital reason for the Warriors' success over the past decade.

The 2016-17 NBA Defensive Player of the Year has consistently been one of the league's best defenders while simultaneously acting as Golden State's facilitator on offense.

Green joined former NBA guard JJ Redick on The Old Man and The Three podcast, where he explained why he is so important to the Warriors' offense.

"For me, people see the system and people say 'he's the main facilitator,'" Green said. "It's not only that I am the main facilitator it's that I ... not so much to Steve Kerr's liking ... just stand at the top of the key. When I get the ball out I reverse it and change sides of the floor. I think that's the biggest difference.

"Obviously Steph [Curry] has to do a lot more off the dribble when I'm not playing as opposed to he doesn't have to be on the ball as much when I am playing because I sort of shoulder all of those responsibilities. The same shots that he gets off the catch or off the move when I'm playing, it's not as simple because that's kind of my role on the team is handling a lot of those responsibilities and allowing him to freely move."

Green has maintained an immense leadership role on the court for any young player who enters the Warriors' system. Whether it's with his words or his actions, Green will get his point across and make sure that Steph Curry is getting the ball as much as possible.

"I'm always teaching because I'm like the coach on the floor for us," Green added. "I'm always teaching guys how to find (Curry), what to do when we're pointing out there and nothing drives me more crazy than sitting at home right now and not being able to point and direct guys."

Currently nursing a disc injury to his back, Green has missed Golden State's previous 12 games and the Warriors have not been the same since he last played on Jan. 5 against Dallas.

The Warriors will reevaluate and provide an update on Green's recovery on Sunday.
