Warriors will need ‘berserk' game from key player, Draymond says

Share

Jordan Poole had an efficient night against the Mavericks in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals where he scored 19 points on 8-12 from the field. Dorell Wright thinks he can continue to feast in this series.

The Warriors find themselves seven wins away from hoisting their fourth Larry O'Brien Trophy in the last eight seasons.

And they've done so despite on and off struggles from their biggest stars.

The Warriors' 112-87 thumping of the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals on Wednesday night at Chase Center was a statement win against Luka Dončić and the Mavs.

At times, all three of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole struggled, with Andrew Wiggins being the Warriors' most consistent player Wednesday night, which spoke volumes about the depth and leadership up and down the roster.

On the latest episode of "The Draymond Green Show" podcast, the Warriors forward spoke about the inconsistent play from Golden State's stars and how they likely will need a monster game from one of them at some point.

"A little of how this series goes is ... we have to make sure we get our guys going," Green said. "Like Steph had a good night, wasn't great. It was a good night, it wasn't great by Steph Curry standards, it was great by just about everyone else standards in this league but wasn't great by Steph Curry standards. Steph Curry's going to have a good night. Klay Thompson had a good second half. He was good defensively, offensively he had a good second half. Klay's going to play better. I thought Jordan had some spurts where he played well, he's going to play better.

"So that's going to be important for us moving forward because there's going to be some games where you need your guy ... and [Andrew] Wiggins had it going on all night, but there's going to be some games where you need one of those guys to go berserk in order to win the game. Especially on the road."

The Warriors have had huge games from each of their stars this postseason, but not necessarily a "berserk" level game. Fortunately for the Warriors, each one of them is quite familiar with the concept.

It's only a matter of time before one, or multiple, Warriors sharpshooters remind the NBA of what they truly are capable of.
