Big man Willie Cauley-Stein, Warriors agree to contract in free agency

The Warriors' roster reconstruction continued last week, with an athletic center moving from Sacramento to San Francisco.

A source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole that former Kings center Willie Cauley-Stein and the Warriors have a contract agreement in place. The Warriors confirmed the deal on July 8, and the Athletic's Shams Charania reported Tuesday that the deal is for two years, but includes a player option.

The Athletic's Marcus Thompson first reported the big man is "coming to the Warriors."

Cauley-Stein, 25, averaged 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in his fourth year as a pro last season. The Kings selected him with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Less than two weeks ago, Cauley-Stein's agent Roger Montgomery told The Sacramento Bee that his client "needs a fresh start." A small one-year deal certainly is not the contract Cauley-Stein hoped for, but the former Kentucky star will get a fresh start in a brand new arena.

Cauley-Stein joins Kevon Looney and Damian Jones in the Warriors' center rotation. Jordan Bell reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with Minnesota on Monday. This agreement puts even more pressure on Jones, who was the Warriors' presumptive starting center but has yet to prove himself in the NBA.

While Cauley-Stein hasn't lived up to expectations as a former top pick, he could be a nice fit for the Warriors on both ends of the floor as a rim-running 7-footer.
