Why Bogut believes Jessup would help Warriors right now

Warriors head coach reveals that he will be getting updates on prospect Justinian Jessup, who Golden State drafted with the No. 51 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Justinian Jessup last week registered 19 points (8-for-14 from the field, 3-for-5 on 3s), two rebounds, two assists and two blocks in the Illawarra Hawks' win over the Cairns Taipans in Australia's National Basketball League.

The performance from the Warriors' 2021 second-round pick prompted a tweet from former Golden State big man Andrew Bogut.

Bogut expounded his thoughts on Jessup during the most recent episode of his "Rogue Bogues" podcast (h/t Ethan Strauss of The Athletic for the transcription).

“He battles. He’s got a high basketball IQ, and he’s got a wet ball," Bogut said. "Teams here are basically topping him off on everything. They’re making him go to the basket on everything. They’re not giving him any space and he’s still finding space to hit step-back 3s, creating space for his 3s.

"I honestly think he could find time for the Warriors right now. I think he’s young, he’s learning the game, but they need shooters down there in Golden State. You could put him in the corner, you’re not leaving him. So he would really help their offense from that point of view.”

The belief is that Jessup is ticketed for a spot on the 15-man roster in 2021-22.

But has anybody in the Warriors' front office spoken with the 22-year-old about possibly joining the team this season?

“No, not really,” Jessup recently told Strauss. “I think the plan is to develop here. Hopefully I can get an opportunity back in the States next year.”

Jessup will be back in action this weekend when the Hawks face off against the South East Melbourne Phoenix.
