NBC Sports California’s Brodie Brazil and Drew Remenda break down San Jose’s 5-4 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

The Sharks salvaged a point in the standings in dramatic fashion at SAP Center on Thursday night.

With San Jose trailing the Vancouver Canucks by one goal in the final seconds, defenseman Brent Burns slid the puck ahead to winger Alexander Barabanov, who was skating towards the net. The 27-year-old spun and hurled a desperation shot at Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko.

It hit the back of the net with 0.6 seconds remaining.

Barabanov’s seventh goal of the season sent the game into overtime. It also marked the fourth occurrence in franchise history that a Sharks player tied a game in the final second of regulation.

However, the Canucks spoiled Barabanov’s dramatic goal in overtime as J.T. Miller lit the lamp at the 2:39 mark of the extra period to hand San Jose a 5-4 loss.

The Sharks now have lost five straight games, albeit they’ve picked up one point in three of the defeats with overtime losses to the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Vancouver.
