It’s bold prediction time for the Sharks as they head into their 2021 season.
For Brent Burns, the case for him to be in the Norris Trophy discussion this year could be considered “bold,” but NBC Sports California’s Curtis Brown says it with conviction.
“Why do I say that with such predictability and boldness? Because he can do it,” Brown said. “I think anytime something happens on the ice, you’re going to hear No. 88’s name and for good reason.”

Burns’ defensive reliability has fallen over recent years, but it hasn’t been as noticed with his strong offensive capabilities.
Last season Burns had 45 points in 70 games, which is decent enough. But prior to that from the 2014-15 season to 2018-19, in 410 games, Burns had a league-leading 101 goals and 260 assists. He also didn’t miss any games in that span while becoming a guy who’s going to help block shots for you.

So, Burns certainly is capable of winning the trophy again, just as he did in 2016-17.
“I’m looking for a bounceback, but maybe in a different form,” Curtis said.
