Source: Raiders sign Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Share

The Raiders are two games into preseason, but are still looking to improve their defense.

Veteran defensive back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie signed with the Raiders Wednesday, a source confirmed to NBC Sports California.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 32, played 15 games for the New York Giants in 2017. He started six games last season and recorded 31 tackles with 17 assists.

In his 10-year career, Rodgers-Cromartie has 30 interceptions and is a two-time Pro Bowler.

The Raiders have several quality cornerbacks on the roster, but could need another one soon. It's possible, thought still uncertain, that Daryl Worley will be suspended by the league after pleading guilty in June to DUI and carrying a firearm and resisting arrest stemming from an April incident in Philadelphia.

Worley has been the team's No. 3 cornerback this preseason, the primary replacement on the outside. Leon Hall should be the primary slot cornerback regardless of Worley's situation.

In addition to top cornerbacks Rashaan Melvin and Gareon Conley, Hall and Nick Nelson are expected to make the team. Worley would be on the roster if a suspension doesn't come before the preseason ends, so having Rogers-Cromartie provides depth and experience to the secondary.
